What is the Process for Becoming a Citizen through Naturalization?

 

In order to become a citizen through naturalization, certain eligibility requirements must be met. For instance, you must have lawful permanent residence status. This means, with few exceptions, you are required to have a green card in order to apply for U.S. citizenship. Beyond this central requirement, other relevant factors in U.S. citizenship eligibility include:

 

• How long you have been in the U.S.

• Moral character

• English language proficiency

• Knowledge of U.S. history and government

 

Once you have evaluated your eligibility for U.S. citizenship, it is time to see if you are able to address and resolve any factors that may make you ineligible.
